Five upgraded Merlin helicopters featuring a range of advancements have been handed over to the Royal Navy, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
A total of 30 Fleet Air Arm helicopters are being upgraded under a £750m deal with Lockheed Martin.
The Merlin Mk2 is said to represent the next-generation of anti-submarine maritime patrol helicopters, with improvements also set to enable the helicopters to carry out counter-piracy and casualty-evacuation duties.
