The Philippine Navy's official Facebook page for newly acquired warship BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF 16) created a visual comparison of old Navy vessels with the country's second Hamilton-class cutter.
While the first vessels under the First Republic under President Emilio Aguinaldo's administration were seized vehicles such as the PT-41 Elco, the country acquired small torpedo boats called "Q-boats" to form its Offshore Patrol fleet under Field Marshal Douglas MacArthur after 1935.
"(The Q-boat fleet) are relatively small (but) have distinct effect in compelling any hostile force to approach cautiously and by small detachments," MacArthur said.
