Austal's second Mobile-built littoral combat ship departs quietly, temporarily for suspected trials

USS Coronado |The Carnival Triumph was not the only high-profile vessel to depart Mobile Bay Wednesday, but the future USS Coronado left its Austal USA dock with far less fanfare than the afflicted cruise ship.

Known officially as LCS-4, the ship is Austal’s second in a naval contract for 10 littoral combat ships, and it left quietly around 8 a.m.

Although continued builder's trials in the Gulf of Mexico seem the Coronado's logical destination, all comments "concerning the location and activity of LCS-4” were deferred to the U.S. Navy.
