Overhaul plan for Orions set to resurface

The chances of a submarine lurking beneath our waters are slim, but the Defence Force is keen to make sure we keep looking.

It is investigating upgrading all six of its Orion aircraft with modern sonar equipment used to detect submarines.

If approved, the upgrade would resurrect a project mothballed by Helen Clark's Labour government in 2001 as too expensive.
