MSDF names female destroyer captains for first time

JDS Asagiri |The Maritime Self-Defense Force has named its first female skippers for destroyers used in training exercises.

Miho Otani, 41, and Ryoko Azuma, 39, both hold the rank of commander and were the first female graduates of the National Defense Academy of Japan.

According to the MSDF, it is the first time for female skippers to take control of warships equipped with missiles and rapid-fire cannon.
