Labour U-turn on plans to replace UK'S £20billion Trident fleet

Vanguard-class |Labour are set to ditch a commitment to fully replace Britain’s £20billion Trident nuclear weapons to save cash, say senior party figures.

Labour advisers are working with leader Ed Miliband to see if the cost of the deterrent can be cut in line with demands being made by the Lib Dems.

The review could see the party back a plan for three replacement submarines for the current fleet of four Vanguard nuclear subs based at Faslane on the Clyde.
