Russia outlines naval fleet development

Mistral-class Amphibious assault ship |The Russian Navy has outlined a number of goals for fleet development to be attained by 2016.

In a 6 January announcement, the navy said it would obtain about 80 support vessels, ranging from tugboats and patrol boats to modular search-and-rescue platforms.

The announcement came three days after the service announced it would be seeking to revamp its naval force with more than 50 new ships in the same time period.
