Indonesia decides to buy Leopard tanks from Germany

Leopard 2Indonesia has decided to buy Leopard Main Battle Tanks (MBT) from Germany with delivery schedule to commence in October this year, a statement released by the Indonesian defense ministry said here on Monday.

Defense Deputy Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said that the decision to buy those tanks from Germany annulled government's initial plans to buy them from the Netherlands.

Sjafrie said that the Netherlandish government provided no certainty regarding Indonesia's proposal to buy the Leopard tanks from that country.
