Trident and the costs of deterrence

[Vanguard class]Since 2006, the British government has been committed in principle to the full replacement of the country’s independent nuclear deterrent based on the Trident missile system.

But the nation has never had a debate about why such an expensive piece of military hardware is vital to our security.

Since the 2010 defence review, the Liberal Democrats have been seeking to start one.
