Misery of defence: Tories find £12billion of unspent cash in MoD budget - but insist soldier cuts must continue

[Philip Hammond]Defence Secretary Philip Hammond yesterday bragged about finding £12billion of unspent MoD cash – but insisted military jobs still had to go.

The Tory Cabinet Minister announced the Coalition’s relentless cuts had finally balanced the Ministry of Defence’s books.

But he infuriated thousands of troops facing the axe by announcing that the billions of pounds saved will be put into a rainy day fund and not used to save jobs.
