Taiwan needs U.S. assistance to build submarines: military report

[Hai-Lung-class]If Taiwan decides to start building its own military submarines, it will require technological assistance from the United States, according to a Ministry of National Defense (MND) report released Wednesday.

The report indicated that the government-owned shipbuilding company, CSBC Corp., Taiwan, will have to address its weakness in the areas of design, the production of key equipment and the development of professional techniques if it wants to build submarines.

However, CSBC cannot resolve the problem without the U.S.’ support, the report said.
