Lord West 'horrified' at size of navy

[Admiral Sir Alan West]The former professional head of the Royal Navy is 'horrified' by the size of the navy today and has said that overseas aid, welfare and NHS budgets should undergo cuts in order to pay to build the force back up.

Admiral Lord West told the Western Morning News that Prime Minister David Cameron "doesn't quite get it" when it comes to defence and that politicians only paid "lip service" to naval power.

"I am horrified our naval flotilla now comprises only 19 frigates and destroyers," said Lord West. "In the Falklands, in the first month of fighting, we had four sunk and 14 damaged. That makes you think. We seem to have forgotten that when you fight you lose things.

  1. The Admiral don't get it. There more voters using these social services than is involved in the navy. So who wins, the most voters.
    Because people are so short sighted it dose mater that these services will not be there if the nation is invaded and defeated.
