Canada was "daft" in purchasing four used submarines with "intrinsic problems" from Britain, a British MP who raised questions about the 1998 sale said Thursday.British Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that Ottawa should ask for a refund.
"Why were the Canadians daft enough to buy them?" he said. "It's either incompetence on behalf of the Canadians or sheer, smooth-talking salesmen from the MOD (ministry of defense) here in Britain."
