Ann Zumwalt Coppola of Longmeadow attends ceremony honoring late father, Adm. Elmo Zumwalt Jr., former head of U.S. Navy

Ann Zumwalt CoppolaAdm. Elmo R. Zumwalt Jr. received many honors and accolades in his lifetime.

He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during World War II.

In 1965, he was the youngest naval officer ever to attain the rank of rear admiral.

He was head of Naval Operations in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and was named Chief of Naval Operations in 1974, the youngest person ever to attain that position.
