THAAD sales, target missiles expected to keep Lockheed Martin facilities in Alabama busy in coming years


Demand for Lockheed Martin's Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system and realistic ballistic missile targets is expected to keep the company's facilities in Alabama busy in 2012 and beyond, officials said this week.

In December, Lockheed was awarded a nearly $2 billion contract to produce two THAAD systems for the Missile Defense Agency and the United Arab Emirates.

It was the first foreign sale of THAAD but won't be the last, said Michael Trotsky, vice president for Air and Missile Defense.
