USS Mississippi to be commissioned June 2 in Gulfport

Mississippi (SSN-782)The $2 billion USS Mississippi submarine will be commissioned in Gulfport on June 2, U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office confirmed today.

Palazzo’s office heard the news in a legislative meeting with the Navy today.

“It is wonderful news that Gulfport has been selected for the commissioning of the USS Mississippi,” Palazzo said. “My office has been working in coordination with (Navy) Secretary Ray Mabus and the Navy to ensure the Fourth Congressional District could host the commissioning of the USS Mississippi. Both Pascagoula and Gulfport were excellent options for the Navy.”
