US agrees to sell three helicopters to Turkey

AH-1Z Cobra attack helicopterThe Pentagon has announced plans to sell three attack helicopters to Turkey but will also try to persuade Congress to sell highly coveted Predator or Reaper drones to Ankara, according to officials.

U.S. officials announced the plans to sell three AH-1 Super Cobra helicopters to Ankara following recent Kurdish militant attacks on Turkish military targets along the Iraqi border.

Pentagon officials also said this week that they supported Turkey’s more controversial desire to buy Predator or Reaper drones, which can be equipped with Hellfire missiles and satellite-guided bombs, The Washington Post reported.
