Top secret files lost in Defence IT blunder

''Top Secret'' or ''Not so Secret''The office of the defence force's top information technology adviser lost a dozen intelligence briefings of the most highly classified level - above top secret - in another embarrassing incident for Australia's armed services.

The documents, which were classified under a sub-category of top secret with code words to further compartmentalise them, were held by Defence's Information Communications Technology Operations Division when they were found to be missing.

Its head at the time was Rear Admiral Peter Jones, who was also the principal strategic adviser to the defence chief and the chief of joint operations for IT security and operations, including oversight of the military's classified networks, such as the Defence Secret Network.
