New Ship Named For City Of Jackson

USS Independence (LCS-2)One of the Navy's new littoral combat ships will bear the name of the city of Jackson.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, a former Mississippi governor, will joined by Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. and others for Wednesday's announcement at city hall in Jackson.

The littoral combat ships are swift, agile warships designed to conduct water combat immediately off of enemy shores.
