Remembering Kursk submarine


The city of Kursk together with the rest of Russia marks a sad date. 11 years ago during exercises in the Barents Sea the nuclear missile-carrying submarine Kursk sank due to a spontaneous torpedo explosion. All 118 sailors of the Northern Fleet who were aboard died.

The people of Kursk laid flowers and wreaths on the graves of the submarine’s crew. 16 families of the fallen submariners live in Kursk.

People also put flowers on the monument in the Alley of Glory where 118 white birch-trees were planted in memory of the sailors.
