Kaman, Lockheed Martin Get Army Contract For Unmanned Air Systems


The U.S. Army has awarded a $47 million contract to Lockheed Martin and Bloomfield-based Kaman Corp. to develop and deliver unmanned, remote-controlled systems for cargo helicopters to supply troops in war zones.

The technology, which will outfit Kaman's K-MAX helicopters, is designed to protect soldiers in a war zone by reducing the need for dangerous supply convoys.

"Lockheed Martin's experience, resources and proven K-MAX platform will allow us to meet the Army's objectives," said Dan Spoor, vice president of aviation systems at Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors.
