First AWD keel block delilvered

AWDA 180-tonne keel block to be fitted to the first of three new air warfare destroyers has arrived at the assembly yard in Adelaide.

Defence Materiel Minister Jason Clare said this was an important step in the $8 billion air warfare destroyer (AWD) project.

Mr Clare said the keel block, measuring 18 metres by 16 metres by five metres, was constructed at the BAE Systems yard in Melbourne and transported by barge to Adelaide.
