Liam Fox: changing aircraft carrier design 'was right'


Defence Secretary Liam Fox says the Government was right to change the design of new aircraft carriers, despite costs going up.

Despite changes to the Royal Navy's two aircraft carriers - HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales - estimated to have increased the final cost of the programme to more than £6.2  billion, Defence Secretary Liam Fox said that he thought there was "broad endorsement" for the Government's plan.

"It was the correct thing to do to change the design of the carrier, to change the plane that we required for the carrier and it made economic sense to go ahead with the second carrier," he said.
