3 frigates, amphib to leave fleet in 2012

USS Ponce (LPD-15)Three frigates and an amphibious transport dock are slated for inactivation in fiscal 2012, according to a Navy message outlining when the four ships will leave the fleet.

Frigates Boone, Stephen W. Groves and John L. Hall will be sold to foreign militaries when they are decommissioned, according to the NAVADMIN released last Friday.

Boone and Stephen W. Groves are slated for inactivation on Feb. 24, 2012; John L. Hall will leave the fleet soon after, on March 9.
