HMCS Calgary cruises in to $351-million upgrade contract

HMCS CalgaryHMCS Calgary arrived at Victoria Shipyards in Esquimalt Monday morning to launch a five-year, $351-million, mid-life upgrading and modernization program for five West Coast frigates.

Each of the five Halifax-class Navy frigates will result in between $2 million to $3 million of expenditure in the local economy, Victoria Shipyards manager Malcolm Barker said Monday.

Money goes on everything from safety gear, to drills, to renting scaffolding, to painting supplies.
