South Korea receives Phalanx system


South Korea's Navy has received the first Phalanx Close-In Weapon System from Raytheon of the United States for its new Ulsan-1 class FFX ship program.

The Phalanx Block 1B system is to be installed on the lead ship of the 2,300-ton frigate class this year and represents Phalanx's introduction into the ROK fleet.

Raytheon said it expects to sign a contract with South Korea for an additional five Phalanx systems in the near future.
