U.S. Navy revamps exam regulations in wake of incident on USS Memphis

Los Angeles classA cheating scandal on board the USS Memphis last fall has changed the way exams are taken on board other submarines.

The lessons learned from the subsequent investigation of the Memphis incident have been shared with submarine squadron commanders and submarine commanders, according to a statement from Submarine Group Two.

"For example, the people who run the exam program are sensitive to the safeguarding of examination keys and the importance of using proctors when conducting written exams," the statement released Wednesday reads. "We have also reinforced with our sailors their understanding of why we take exams and how we use their results to validate that our training sessions have been effective."
