Overseas Reaction To JSF Adjustment Muted

F-35 Lightning IINorway is dispatching a group of senior officials to the U.S. this week to better understand the effects of the Pentagon’s latest restructuring of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, but overall there has been little concern expressed by the program’s international partners.

Reaction from countries looking to buy the Lockheed Martin aircraft has been limited. Norwegian Defense Minister Grete Faremo promises parliament she will provide information on the effect of the changes as soon as possible, but notes that it is still too early to draw conclusions.

Australian acting Defense Minister Jason Clare on Jan. 7 lent his support to the Pentagon’s action. In a statement, the Australian government focuses on the fact that the F-35A schedule is holding and that “the restructure announced by [U.S. Defense Secretary Robert] Gates means it is now at the front of the production queue” (Aerospace DAILY, Jan. 7).
