Nimrod cuts 'rob us of vital weapon in war on terror'

Nimrod Maritime Patrol AircraftScrapping the Nimrod spy plane will deprive the UK of one its most powerful weapons against terrorism, experts say.

Nimrod became one of the most high-profile victims of the Government’s defence review, announced in October.

The decision caused outrage because taxpayers had already paid more than £3.5billion towards a new ­generation of 12 Nimrod MAR4s. Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said in a leaked letter that it would ­drastically “delete one element of our Falklands reinforcement plan”.
