Fairbanks Morse Engine Selected to Supply Propulsion Diesel Engines for Ten Littoral Combat Ships

USS Freedom (LCS-1)Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply two Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick 16-cylinder PA6B STC propulsion diesel engines for the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program.

The award follows the Navy's recent decision to purchase ten additional LCS ships designed by Lockheed Martin Corp. and constructed by Wisconsin shipbuilder Marinette Marine Corporation.

Over the course of the shipbuilding program, each of the ten ships will be powered by two Colt-Pielstick engines, which together provide more than 17,000 brake horsepower (bhp) as part of an innovative propulsion system that enables the ship to motor efficiently at low speeds but still exceed 40 knots to meet mission requirements.
