6 copters to beef up Singapore naval defence

The naval ships protecting the waters off Singapore are now joined by six new naval helicopters.

These helicopters are capable of detecting submerged vessels and, together with the Republic of Singapore Navy's stealth frigates, will spend most of their time at sea, strengthening the frigates' anti-surface and anti-submarine capabilities.

The S-70B Sikorsky Seahawks will now be part of the 123 Squadron, a unit with a history of providing air support to the army.
