Hawker Sea Harriers say farewell in poignant flypast over Imperial War Museum Duxford


A formation of four Harrier aircraft performed a flypast over Imperial War Museum Duxford last week in what is likely to be one of the last appearances by the famous jump jet before it goes out of service.

The last of the UK's operational Sea Harriers took off from the aircraft carrier Ark Royal for the last time on November 25 with both the Ark Royal and its Harrier GR9s due to be scrapped by 2011 under cost-cutting defence plans.

An iconic aircraft throughout its service with a famous Vertical/Short Take Off and Landing (VISTOL) capability, the four aircraft that flew at Duxford on Thursday December 9 face an uncertain future.
