Cherry Point will get eight F-35B squadrons


Cherry Point air station will get eight squadrons of the Marine Corps version of the Joint Strike Fighter.

The Navy is good to go with the preferred basing alternative for F-35Bs announced in its November final environmental impact statement. The record of decision goes into the Federal Register tonight.

The eight F-35B squadrons at Cherry Point and three operational squadrons and two training squadrons at Beaufort, S.C., will replace 84 legacy Marine Corps F/A-18A/B/C/D Hornets and 68 AV-8B Harrier aircraft in the 2nd Marine Air Wing and the 4th Marine Air Wing.
