Ukraine's only sub to reenter service in spring

Zhaporozye submarineUkraine's only submarine will become operational again in the spring of 2011, after almost 10 years under repairs, Chief of Staff Rear Adm. Yuriy Ilyin said on Tuesday.

Sea trials will start in December and continue through May, he said.

Ukraine received the Zhaporozye submarine (launched in 1970) following the division of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

It has been under repairs since 1991.
