Three RFA ships 'could be cut'

Maritime Union RMT has pledged to fight any plans for cuts and privatisation in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) following the publication of a memo suggesting three of the RFA's 16 ships could go.

Newspaper Lloyd's List published an internal memo written by RFA Commodore Bill Walworth on 19 October which listed cuts that may be made in the wake of the Strategic Defence and Security Review.

Walworth wrote: "SDSR for the RFA means we will lose a tanker, probably Bayleaf, an LSD(A) [Landing Ship Dock Auxiliary], probably Largs Bay, and an AOR [Auxiliary Oiler Replenisher], probably Fort George.
