Glasgow-built destroyer sets sail for naval base

HMS DaringHMS Diamond, a Type 45 anti-air warfare destroyer, set sail from the Clyde for the last time on Saturday on its way to Portsmouth, where it will be formally handed over to the Royal Navy at a ceremony on Wednesday.

Scores of employees at the Scotstoun yard turned out to bid farewell to the ship, which BAE Systems has been working on since 2005.

It marks the halfway stage of a £6bn contract to build six Type 45 destroyers for the Royal Navy by the end of 2013.
