The Federal Government will buy up to 24 new helicopters for the Navy, and has given a second pass approval for the acquisition of seven new Chinook helicopters for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).Defence Minister John Faulkner says the 24 Navy helicopters will have advanced anti-submarine warfare capability.
He says a contract will be put to tender in the coming months, with the aim of having the helicopters operational by 2014.
