Australia's Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system, Project Wedgetail, is surrounded by a curtain of protective flares in this test of its counter measures over off the US coast. Boeing said today the successful completion of the testing, conducted in September and October over the state of Washington, was a key step towards verification of the modified Boeing 737s overall electronic warfare defence system.
The system, designed to warn aircrews and decoy missiles away from the aircraft by releasing chaff and flares, was tested on 19 flights that involved the release of more than 500 units of chaff and flares.
