Russian source denies Syria missile sale


A Russian defense industry official said media reports alleging Yakhont sea-to-sea missiles were sold to Syria are false.

The source denied the allegations made in the report by the Israeli news service Cursor.co.il, which said Russia had exported the missiles to Syria as part of the construction of a new port on the Syrian coast and as a means of broadening military cooperation between the nations, Interfax reported Friday.

"Yakhont missiles were not sold to Syria, and their export to that country is not planned in the near future," the Russian defense industry source told Interfax.
