The Coast Guard of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba has shelved plans to construct coastal radar on the Windward Islands pending further analysis. The reasons are mainly financial. At the same time, the Coast Guard announced in its 2009 General Policy Plan that there were plans to strengthen cooperation with France with regard to border control of St. Maarten/St. Martin. “The relationship between the Dutch Kingdom and France is of evident importance,” it was stated.
The Coast Guard wants to start realising cooperation agreements with France this year. The idea is to make it easier to patrol each other’s waters so the execution of tasks can improve.
