Russian RS-24 missiles to go on duty in December - commander of RVSN

Topol-M (SS-27)The first regiment armed with RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missiles with multiple re-entry vehicles will go on combat duty after December 5, 2009, upon the expiration of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty-1, commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) Col-Gen Nikolai Solovtsov told reporters on Tuesday.

"The first missile regiment armed with the RS-24 complex will go on combat duty after December 5. Initially, it will comprise a mobile command post and one missile battery (three mobile launchers)," Solovtsov said answering an Itar-Tass question.

When asked how many warheads the RS-24 missile will carry, the commander replied "at least four."
