MBDA is looking to the April NATO summit for a political boost to its Aster missile, with France and Italy potentially pledging the air defense system as their national contributions to the alliance's theatre ballistic missile defense program, CEO Antoine Bouvier said Feb. 12 at the Aero India show.
The European missile maker is in talks with the Délégation Générale pour l'Armament procurement office for a commitment by France to bring the SAMP/T medium-range surface-to-air missile system as a contribution in kind to the active layered theatre ballistic missile defense (ALTBMD) program under development by the Alliance, Bouvier said.
Countries, instead of putting in money, can pledge assets to the ALTBMD program.
