Delays to the Royal Navy's two new aircraft carriers have "nothing to do" with the introduction of Joint Combat Aircraft which will provide their strike force, the head of the Navy said yesterday.First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Jonathon Band said the expected two-year delay to the £4bn carrier project was due to investment "priorities", and described the defence budget as "under pressure".
In December, Defence Secretary John Hutton said the ships' entry into service was likely to be delayed by one to two years to bring it more closely in line with the introduction of the Joint Combat Aircraft.

Since WWII Britain has successfully operated with small carriers. Perhaps Britain is trying to get into the large carrier game to compete with France and Russia.
