6,000 deploy with Eisenhower group starting Friday

USS EisenhouwerAbout 6,000 sailors will deploy to the Middle East with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group beginning Friday, the Navy announced today.

The guided-missile destroyer Bainbridge will leave Norfolk on Friday. The aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower will leave Saturday along with the underway replenishment oiler Big Horn and the dry cargo/ammunition ship Sacagawea.

Three other ships will depart Saturday from Mayport, Fla.: the cruisers Gettsyburg and Vicksburg and the frigate Halyburton. The guided-missile destroyer Stout will deploy from Norfolk at a later date.
