About 6,000 sailors will deploy to the Middle East with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group beginning Friday, the Navy announced today.
The guided-missile destroyer Bainbridge will leave Norfolk on Friday. The aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower will leave Saturday along with the underway replenishment oiler Big Horn and the dry cargo/ammunition ship Sacagawea.
Three other ships will depart Saturday from Mayport, Fla.: the cruisers Gettsyburg and Vicksburg and the frigate Halyburton. The guided-missile destroyer Stout will deploy from Norfolk at a later date.
