Have a merry Christmas

Video & text by Gogonostop

Christmas is often regarded as a time of universal celebration and joy.

But, unfortunately, there are a lot of people (and likely some we know) who are depressed, or missing friends, relatives, loved ones, or even their homes, whether due to personal conflict, the military, the economy, illness, or natural disasters (such as Hurricane Katrina). There are many who wonder how they are going to survive the next semester, or if they have any real friends.

I believe that Christmas is, at its core, the celebration of love, as that is the attribute most often representative of Christ in Christian theology. However, the divine command to love thy neighbor, as many of us know, is not simply confined to Christian doctrine; it is also present in numerous other theologies. Thus to celebrate Christmas, regardless of what faith (or nonfaith, if you prefer) to follow, is to celebrate love.

Which is why I made this video, featuring the song Better Days by Goo Goo Dolls. It doesnt focus on all the jingle-bells and Christmas-cookies and happy endings that thinking about Christmas usually does, but on the reality of life around us that there are likely people we know this Christmas season who need us to connect with them on some level, and that it is often by our interaction with and attention to them, which lets them know another person cares, that they feel more self-empowered.

Lastly, although Im skeptical of my work with this video, I hope you enjoy it. Take care, everyone! And have a merry Christmas.
