Pressure group calls for eight Astute subs

Supporters of Barrow’s shipbuilding industry have lobbied the deputy prime minister to keep defence projects on track.

Harriet Harman was the key politician to visit a stand manned by shipyard campaigners, the Keep Our Future Afloat Campaign, at the Labour Party’s North West Conference.

KOFAC’s message was that Labour should not be tempted to put defence projects on hold, or slow them because of the credit crunch.
