The Air Force has restarted a program to arm B-52 bombers with long-range, radar-jamming pods two years after officials canceled the effort when cost estimates rose to $7 billion.A new $68 million, five-year study is aimed at developing technology to load core component jammers onto the tips of B-52 wings.
It’s unclear when the pods — aimed at defeating air defenses, including early warning radars — could be deployed, but Jeff Weis, Boeing’s program manager for airborne electronic attack technology maturation, said it would be before 2020.
