Lawmakers 'battling' over ship programs

The legislative tug-of-war over new warship programs — two of which represent varying degrees of work for Bath Iron Works — continued this week, as high-ranking senators questioned the Navy's "acquisition management."

Tuesday's hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee's seapower subcommittee came less than two weeks after some high-ranking House members advocated for the termination of the DDG-1000 destroyer program.

The new destroyers, which cost the Navy an estimated $3.6 billion each, figure to weigh heavily in BIW's future work plans.
