Germany Fields Braunschweig-Class

The Germany navy this week has formally put into service the K-130 Braunschweig corvette, the first of five boats in a new class.

The 58-person vessels are supposed to augment Germany’s fast boats and frigates, with a special emphasis on littoral operations.

The Braunschweig-class ships are the most highly integrated of Germany’s surface combatants, building on work done for the Sachsen-class frigates, with a high degree of redundancy to retain combat capability even if damaged is incurred.
