India might still be some years away from inducting combat UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) but is on the verge of acquiring spy drones which itself act like cruise missiles. Defence ministry sources say the Army, Navy and IAF are now drafting a combined proposal to purchase Israeli Harpy UAVs, which are designed to detect and attack enemy radar.
"Indian teams went to Israel to see the Harpys in action last year. Their purchase has now been approved in principle," said a source.
